Wall hangings made with community
Collaboration with Jean Marshall, 2021

When presented with the opportunity, through architects LGA Partners, to mark the recently renovated Indigenous Knowledge Centres at the Thunder Bay Public Library with banners or wall hangings, Kathryn Walter asked local artist Jean Marshall to collaborate. The artists worked with four women active in the local Indigenous community—Shelby Gagnon, Bess LeGarde, Mary Magiskan, and Melissa Twance, along with visiting artist Maria Hupfield. With Jean as director and Kathryn as producer, the pieces came to life as stories were told and techniques were shared in this week-long intensive.
