Before founding the FELT studio, Kathryn Walter worked in a range of media, practicing as an artist, curator and educator. She went to Emily Carr College of Art and Design and began showing her work in 1989 in Vancouver in galleries and public sites. She moved to Montreal and completed an MFA in 1993 at Concordia University and further pursued projects that engaged social history and site-specificity. In 1997 she returned to her hometown of Toronto where she continues to use visual art to explore the built environment through the medium of industrial felt.
